The 1st Ontario Championship tournament was held on 25-26 April 2009 at Markham. The Ontario Championship is the qualification tournament for the National Championship in July 2009, and attracted the highest level youth and adult players to participate.

The tournament was divided into U11, U13, U15 and U18 Boys and Girls events, and also Open events for Men and Women. Anqi Luo, a 13 year old girl from the Mississauga Rattlers Table Tennis Club became the biggest star at the tournament. She won the championship in U13, U15 and U18 Girls, and got 3rd place in the Women's Open event.

Sheree Zhang, another 11 year old girl from the Rattlers club, also had an excellent performance in the tournament. She got 2nd place for the U13 Girls, and 3rd place for the U11 Girls.
