Who will stop Danny Ly? That’s the question many of us after his 3rd consecutive victory in Open Ontario tournaments. Yen-Chun Lu and Zexuan Wang gave it a good try at Rattlers last Sunday, but to no avail.
(by A. Thomas, tournament coordinator)
Ly kept spinning back everything to prevent his opponents from putting the ball away. Wang, who easily dismissed Ben Kim in the semis and took the juniors event as a side show, will be back for vengeance, no doubt. Ly also took the Open Doubles, paired with Lu, after a major challenge by Carslake and Thomas in the semis. Speaking of juniors, it is regrettable that the event was only attended by 7 players, although quality (especially Max Xia and Anqi Luo) somewhat made up for quantity. Of particular note in the other events was Igor Svitstoun’s success in U-1500 and U-1900, and low-rated Way Ng’s surprise victory in the U-2300. His combination of long pips and athletic ability seems to paying off nicely these days.
